In a competition just as thrilling as a Chiefs game, the Lincoln County Spelling Bee competitors battled for 14 rounds before determining a winner. The final rounds were very exciting, with the potential winner changing three different times. In the end, LJSHS student Gabriella E. was crowned the champion. She will go on to represent Lincoln County in the Sunflower State Bee later this spring. Saydee G. from USD 299 was the runner-up followed by LES student Juliette G. for third place. A special thanks to John Baetz for volunteering to be the pronouncer. Congrats to all of this year's spellers.

January is School Board Recognition Month, a great opportunity to say thank you to USD 298 Board of Education Members who are committed to the success of every student in our community.
At the December 13, 2021, Board of Education meeting, Patti Winters, Debora Zachgo and TJ Jonsson were recognized for their 28 combined years of serving on the board. Thank you for the incredible service you provided to our community and our schools.
New members Jason Coover, Jessica Kobbeman and Nate Naasz joined current members David Bell, John Buttenhoff, Jeana Eckhart and Bree McReynolds-Baetz for their first board meeting on January 10, 2022. These seven community leaders volunteer hundreds of hours attending meetings, reading reports and discussing plans and programs to support educational achievement. “Our board members develop policies and make complex decisions that shape the future of our education system. They are accountable for an annual budget of approximately $4million, 334 students, 65 employees and district facilities and buildings,” said Scott Crenshaw, Superintendent. A board member’s responsibility goes far behind the monthly meeting, however. “They advocate for our schools to make sure every child has access to an excellent education.
We are grateful to have this opportunity to formally say ‘thank you’ to each of them,” said Crenshaw. USD 298 Lincoln encourages the entire community to thank a school board member, not only this month but throughout the entire year.
