Here’s an update on LES’s progress towards the goal of 500 acts of kindness. As of last Friday, the count was a little over 350. If the goal is reached by this Thursday, January 28th, Friday will be a pajama day for the whole school with some other fun activities! Students have been practicing and completing acts of kindness on their own and during group activities. Tomorrow is the start of the week-long Great Kindness Challenge, a worldwide SEL-focused kindness initiative. This is the first time LES has ever participated! Look out for our happenings this week and ways that YOU can spread kindness too! For more info check out: www.thegreatkindnesschallenge.com

Nothing better on a cold winter day than hot chocolate. 4th graders in Mrs. Obermueller's class mixed hot chocolate with math for a fun, Friday treat.

Before Winter Break, 5th grade students made Christmas cards for the Senior Center and those that receive Meals on Wheels. This week Tennyson D. received a letter and a small token back from her recipient, Barb Gourley. One more way LES students spread kindness to the community.

During the month of January, LES is proudly focusing on kindness. As a school, we have set a goal to complete 500 acts of kindness by Thursday, January 28th. We started working towards our goal on Monday, January 11th. To monitor progress towards our goal, Kindness Challenge cards will be available for students to fill out whenever they complete an act of kindness and for staff when they see an act of kindness take place. There is a bulletin board in the main hallway that allows students to track our progress towards the goal and view acts of kindness that have been completed. So far, students have completed 100 acts of kindness! Stay tuned for more updates! As another part of our focus on kindness this month, LES students are doing Coins for a Cause to raise money for our custodian, Alan Finch. Mr. Finch has been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing treatments. Students are able to bring in spare change or funds to add to the collection jar that will go to Mr. Finch for medical expenses. We are encouraging students to complete acts of kindness not only during the school day, but at home and in the community as well. We hope to have students become more aware of the impact acts of kindness can have and start making kind choices more and more! We would also like to invite community members to join us in spreading kindness and completing random acts of kindness. We’re all in this together! Our school will also be participating in The Great Kindness Challenge later this month. Be on the lookout for further information about this. If you have any questions or if you’d like to know more about ideas and how you can participate alongside us during our kindness month please reach out to Mrs. Ptacek, LES School Counselor.
