Today 7th grade industrial arts students completed their woodshop unit. Students learned proper and safe operation of woodworking machines. Using these practices students completed a oven push stick and a cutting board.

On March 6th, FFA members Rose K., Ethney S., Jonathan B. and Benjamin B. were provided with an opportunity to experience K-State Cattlemen’s Day in Manhattan. The trip was made possible by a collaborative effort between an anonymous Lincoln County resident who provided the funding, and Citizens State Bank & Trust Co. who helped organize the trip. Morgan Nitsch, FFA Advisor, selected the four students to attend based on their academic performance, FFA involvement, and interest in pursuing a career in agriculture and animal science industry.
The event was held at the “new” Bilbrey Family Event Center in Manhattan. Students heard from several speakers who provided a broad overview of the cattle industry and current economic trends. The students also toured the tradeshow where vendors showed off their new tools of the trade such as mineral for cattle, veterinary expertise, and various resources available for producers. A brisket lunch was provided by U.S. Premium Beef.
Ms. Nitsch saw this as a great opportunity for students to step into the real-life boots of a cattle rancher and here from college professors who they may have as teachers one day. “The kids earned the opportunity to go on this trip and will benefit from the knowledge gained. We want to thank the anonymous donor for making this happen and appreciate the partnership with Citizens State Bank & Trust Co., for helping to organize the trip to Manhattan.”
Jim Metz, Trust Officer at Citizens Trust and Investments, helped organize the trip and joined the students in Manhattan. “We have some amazing people in this community who deeply care about our kids and want to see them succeed. I am encouraged that this program will continue and look forward to seeing other students benefit, just as these four did.”
